Explore Scenic Dormont, PA
A lovely residential suburb in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, Dormont is a borough of Allegheny County, PA. Dormont means “Mountain of Gold” in French if you translate it loosely. It was originally part of the area that the Delaware and Shawnee tribes held until 1768, when it was purchased. It was properly incorporated as Dormont in 1909. Initially, people wanted to name it Mt. Lebanon, but locals raised objections to the south.
The area is known for its arts and culture and some of the nicest places to visit. One of the largest swimming pools in all of Pennsylvania is here. It is open year-round and a great place to visit. Multiple parks, basketball and tennis courts, Little League fields, and an extensive volunteer-built children’s playground provide activities for the entire family to enjoy. The local Historical Society, Arts & Culture Committee, Library, and Community Development Corporation all work together to promote, preserve, and maintain the culture of the area, leading to the many festivals and events that are hosted in the town year-round.
